The Pursuit
The Pursuit tells the ongoing story of Detective Constable George Charteris, the young police rookie who featured in The Greatest Escape.
Although the "official" line has been put about that all the escaped German Prisoners of War have been recaptured, both George and his Detective Inspector know only too well that four of the prisoners remain at large.
Without official permission, George sets out to pursue at least one of the escapees - a particularly dangerous officer with a reputation for violence and manipulation; an SS Panza Major or Sturmbannfuhrer, loyal to both his Fuhrer and his Nazi creed.
George races from his base in South Wales, first to Canterbury where the prisoners were last seen, picking up a single clue which he must interpret before deciding his next move.
From Kent, following a hunch, he pursues an uncertain trail of theft and damage - but is he on a fool's errand? And how long can he hold out before his impatient boss demands that he returns to his regular duties?
